Life without a real job = so much free time.
Well, since it’s just me and Matt, I really do have a lot of free time. Which is something that I’m not really good at. I thrive off of deadlines and getting things done, call me crazy. I think I just love consistency. Also, I really came to enjoy the people I worked with on a daily basis. They were perfect co-workers, and if I ever need a real job in Texas, I hope I can work with them again.
But, the days of due dates and things to do are over. Sorta. Laundry-for-two piles up more than you’d think, and it’s not due at any particular time. It just has to get done.
I’ve filled in some spaces of my day with nannying part-time and tutoring calculus and physics for high schoolers. I like relating what I earn to what I actually need it for, so these jobs go towards car payment, car insurance, gas, internet bill, and some groceries each month. Every extra tutoring job I get definitely counts.
Even with these jobs, I still have quite a bit of alone time. Most mornings I find myself at a coffee shop with a $2 coffee, most afternoons I’ll go for a swim, and I’m figuring out how to let Mass flow into my ‘schedule’.
I think I’m still learning how to let myself have nothing to do – a skill my husband seems to have perfected. Matt did the whole ‘year-off’ thing after graduating from college, and it worked for him. He definitely would not have developed into who he is today without that time of no agendas, and he wants me to have the same opportunity of endless leisure.
For now, Monday is the day I give some of Matt’s classmates a ride home. Monday is also the day of no nannying or tutoring. So, when his friends ask me what I did today, I never have anything impressive to say. If I can get over the uncomfortable feeling that question brings me, I think I will have mastered this idea of leisure Matt wants me to have.
Wow. That was a long ‘quick take’… I promise the rest won’t be as long!

Last week at the grocery store, when I passed the cottage cheese section, I decided to go for it. It’s always been something I wanted to like because maybe it’s good for me (it’s got a good amount of protein)? It just hasn’t ever worked; something ends up tasting gross. But, I decided to try it out again since it’s been a few years. I went to the canned peaches aisle, found the cans with only peaches, water, and sugar (no high fructose corn syrup business for me!), and checked out. I’m amazed to say, I actually like this combination now.

This past weekend I missed my dear friend Elizabeth’s wedding. When I go down to Texas, I fly standby (my sister is a flight attendant, and I’m lucky to get free flights!). Unfortunately, this past Friday, 3 of the 4 flights were cancelled from Milwaukee to Dallas (crazy rain in Dallas), which meant the amount of paying customers on the standby list for Saturday was huge. And, they were all ahead of me in line. Can’t believe I had to miss what I’m sure was a beautiful wedding. But, prayers for Ross and Elizabeth!

Matt and I are slowly buying the Harry Potter movies from a used movie store down the road from us. I’m trying to buy them in order, so I can watch them in order and reminisce on how cute each of the characters were as little kids (little Harry! little Ron! little Hermione! hehehe!). We watched the third movie, and also broke out our popcorn maker we received as a wedding gift. Mmmmm popcorn with real butter is so much better than the bagged stuff. Please go make real popcorn and never eat the bagged stuffed again.

The baby that I am nannying will be turning one soon, and Matt and I are Godparents to our adorable niece and nephew twins (under 1 year old). They are all in the stage of grab thing, put thing in mouth. No matter what the thing is. I’m buying this Rosary for those three cuties (birthday and Christmas presents) :) Thanks Haley for the review and discount code!

I have a whole 9-pound boneless pork loin in my freezer that I bought about a month ago (it was SUPER cheap with a coupon!). I’m finally taking it out of the freezer to thaw and give me motivation to do something with it. Eeeeks.

Matt and I are going to a Halloween party on Saturday, and I have no idea what we are going to be. One year we won $100 by being a koala in a tree (me-koala, matt-tree), but I don’t think the ears I created made it up to Wisconsin…
Time for Mass y’all! Happy Monday! :)
